For my actual LINK project I ended up straying away from my original idea and decided to focus on breeding. Specifically on line breeding vs. out breeding. I created a "family tree" for one of Jennifer's stallions to show that you can create a quality offspring without breeding back in a family to get those certain characteristics. I also talked about some of the characteristics that are bred for and looked for in a horse, including conformation, trainabilty and durability.
In the summer I hope to go back and help Jennifer breed one of her stallions to one of her mares. So I also looked at what type of horse you would get depending on which mare you breed her stallion to.
The physical project that I presented shows the family trees of one of the stallion, El Duque, and then two of her mares, Santalina and Gitana, that she hopes to breed to Tambien. On El Duque's tree I wanted to show that it is possible to produce a quality offspring by outbreeding instead of trying to breed back along a line to get certain characteristics. With the other three I was trying to predict what characteristics each foal will have depending on the dam.
