Say "No" to Reality
I believe in the monsters that hide in our closets and under our beds. I believe in the fairies that paint the leaves orange and yellow. I believe in the faraway lands that I read about in books. I believe in a Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. I believe that I can be whatever I want when I grow up. I believe in the power of the imagination.
I have always loved reading books. They take you to massive castles in the sky, they teach you that girls can be heroes too, they submerse you in an animal's life, but most of all they grant you the ability to create your own pictures using their words. Growing up I would sit in a corner reading for hours, getting lost in the words on the page. The books gave me an escape out of my life.
The practice I got at imagining visions in my head helped me throughout school. I can create my own pictures through writing. My imagination has even helped me with math, imagining the outcome of different problems. My imagination has helped me excel in spatial thinking, paving the way for my dream to become an interior designer.
I use my imagination as a planner. It plans where I want to go, what I want to be, what I want to see, etc. When I was a child I would imagine myself as a princess and then when I was older, as a professional dancer. As I got older I began to realize that some dreams are hard to reach. But I still had to imagine a future right? When I think about what I want to do in college and as a career, I'm imagining. I think about what my life could be like if I chose to be an interior designer, and how it might be different if chose marketing instead. Sometimes I can sit for hours imagining scenarios in my head, and I know some of them will never happen, but there are others that inspire me. I believe our imaginations are the foundations of our futures.
My imagination makes my life exhilarating and full of possibilities. Painting a path that shows me I can imagine my life however I want and continue to believe in fantasies, Dr. Seuss' words have carried me through life. "I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope. Which is what I do, and that enables you to laugh at life's realities."
